The automated TotalPave IRI collector simply requires the user to click the “Start Data Collection” button on the application and it begins logging raw acceleration, GPS, and magnetometer information from the smartphone while driving. When the log is uploaded, the data is sent wirelessly to the organization’s space on TotalPave’s cloud-based server where the raw data is used to calculate an IRI value for the target sections of road.
